Kings' Justice
The King Vikramaditya was known for his justice. Once two ladies were brought to his court. They had a child alongwith them. They both were disputing with each other over the child. One said, the child is mine. The other said, no the child is mine. They wanted that the king should settle their dispute. The king made it clear to them that one of them is definitely telling a lie. And if her lie is proved, she would be punished. If you want to escape punishment, better say the truth yourself. But kings warning had no effect on them, they both remained adamant on the point that the child is theirs. The king very well knew that one of them was a genuine mother and the other was just an imposter. But the question was how to do justice ?
When somehow both the ladies remained adamant on their claim, the king finally gave his verdict. He ordered that the child should be cut into two pieces and one each be given to both of them.
Hearing the verdict, one of the lady ramained quiet, but the other protested saying that it is not fair. It will kill the child. No, no, please do’t do that. I withdraw my claim. You better give the child to the other lady. At least the child will remain alive. The king understood who was the real mother of the child. He said the lady protesting against the verdict is child’s real mother. Only a mother thinks of child’s welfare in all the circumstances.
