✦ A story about Honesty

How Lukmaan proved his innocence

At one time Hazrat Lukmaan, the renowned physician was a slave of a rich man. Though of dark complexion, he was very intelligent. In physique, of course, he was looking weaker than the other co-slaves. The rich man had a garden and he used to send his slaves for picking and bringing the dry fruits. The other slaves, who collected the dry fruits, used to eat some themselves. One day the rich man came to know about it. He enquired about it. The slaves in one tone put the blame on Lukmaan, saying that he had eaten the dry fruits.

The rich man called Lukmaan and sternly questioned him. Lukmaan said that he was not dishonest. Since God never forgives the dishonest, he requested that he be given a chance to prove his innocence. The rich man asked him: ‘How will you prove it’. Lukmaan said that all the slaves including myself be asked to drink hot water and then we may asked to run in the forest. If God helped, the truth will come out.

The rich man asked all the slaves to drink hot water especially heated up for the purpose. Then he took a horse and asked the slaves to run after him in the the forest. The result was that after sometime the slaves started vomiting. Whatever they had eaten came out. The vomit of all other slaves contained the pieces of dry fruits but the Lukmaan only vomited water. The innocence of Lukmaan was proved.

If an ordinary person like Hazrat Lukmaan can expose our sins thus, what the Lord of Lords cannot do?
