✦ A story about Generosity

The Mischievous Shephered

Once there was a shepherd. Everyday, he used to take the cattle in the nearby forest for grazing and used to bring them back to the village in the evening. This was his daily routine. When the cattle was grazing, he used to play flute. One day a mischievous trick came to his mind. He started shouting, save me, save me, a wolf has come, a wolf has come. The villagers heard him shouting thus, rushed towards the forest with sticks to encounter the wolf and to help him. But when they reached the forest, the shepherd just smiled and said, Oh I was just joking. There is no wolf. The villagers were much annoyed.

After a few days, the shepherd played the same mischief again. He shouted save me, save me, a wolf has come, a wolf has come. The villagers again took their sticks and rushed to help him. But when they reached tbe forest, they again found him smiling. They understood that it was just his trick to tease the villagers.

One day when the shepherd was comfortably playing his flute, a wolf actually came there and was staring at him. The shepherd got afraid and shouted for for help. The villagers heard him but they thought that perhaps he is playing a trick as before. This time no body rushed for his help. The wolf attacked and killed him.

The poor shepherd became the victim of his own tricks. If someone tries to befool others, he actually befools himself.
