Mahatma Vidur and His Wife
Vidur was the brother of Dhritrashtra and Pandu. He could not become the successor of the empire because he happened to be the son of a Dasi (Maid). But Vidur and his wife were greatly devoted to Sri Krishna.
When Sri Krishna visited Hastinapur to resolve the dispute between Kaurvas and Pandvas, Duryodhan did not accept the proposal of treaty due to his own vanity and pride. But for the sake of formality, he invited Sri Krishna for Lunch. Sri Krishna did not accept his invitation and he rather went to Vidur’s house.
At that time Vidur was not at home. His wife was bathing, when she heard about the arrival of Lord Krishna. She was so excited and happy that she ran towards Lord Krishna as she was, unaware that she was not wearing anything at all. Sri Krishna was astonished to see her great love for him. He at once covered her with his yellow shawl.
Then She escorted Lord Krishna inside and offered him seat with extreme love and devotion. Lord Krishna asked her to bring some food to eat. Vidur’s wife immediately brought bananas. She was so lost in the love and ecstacy of Lord Krishna that she threw the pulp away and offered the peels to Him. God wants only love. So he accepted the peels happily. In the meantimeVidur came. When he saw what she was doing, he scolded her for such a behaviour. Then Vidur himself sat besides Lord Krishna and offered him the Pulp to eat. Lord Krishna said, Vidur, no doubt the banana Pulp is very sweet but it lacks the sweetnesss that I tasted in the peels.
Pure love is the only way to please God.
