The three advices
When the King Gopi Chand, gave up all and became a Yogi, then his Guru, the Yogiraj asked him to go for begging in his own state first. He wanted that the King should thus be able to discard his Ego and Pride. When the King visited his own state for begging, all his people gave him charity whole heartedly. Then the king went to his queens. They also offered him their costly jewellery. In the end he went to his mother. The mother said, Son, You have come to beg. I will not give you material things, instead I give you three advices which you should listen very carefully. My first advice is that you should eat well, the most tasty food. My second advice is that you should sleep on a most comfortable bed. And my third advice is that you should always live in sturdy fort.
Gopi Chand was amazed to hear his mother. He said, mother with your inspiration I gave up everything and became a Yogi and now you are asking me to eat well, sleep well, live in a sturdy fort. How a Yogi can have all these comforts.
The mother clarified saying, my son you have not understood my advices. When I said eat well, I mean you should meditate maximum and eat only when you are extremely hugry. At that time whatever you get, will be a delicious food and you will relish it. When I said, sleep on comfortable bed, I mean you should devote maximum time to your meditation and should sleep only when it becomes uncontrollable. At that time even if you sleep on stones, that will appear to you the most comfortable bed. Similarly when I said, Live in a sturdy fort, I meant that you should always follow the instructions of your Guru, your Master. As long as you are following the instructions of your Master, no one can harm you. That is your sturdy fort.
Gopi Chand understood his mother’s advices clearly. He touched her feet and went on his way.
