✦ A story about Kindness

Odd Companionship Is Dangerous

On the bank of a river, a frog and a mouse became friends. The mouse had a hole on the bank and the frog lived in the waters of the river. They used to meet at a fixed time and narrate their tales and gossip with each other. Both were very happy. Their friendship increased day by day. One day the mouse complained that he was not satisfied with their short meetings at the fixed hour. He suggested that they should find out ways to meet frequently whenever they liked. The mouse said that as he cannot go into the water, so a link needs to be established between the two for frequent and desired meetings.

Finally they decided that they should tie a cord in their feet, so that whenever the mouse liked, he could pull it and signal the frog to come out of water. Although the frog didn’t like the idea much, yet for the sake of friendship, he agreed. For several days this arrangement continued.

But one day, unfortunately, a crow jumped at the mouse and caught it in its clutches and flew high upwards. Since the frog was also tied with the mouse with the strong cord, the frog also got pulled from water. Those who saw the crow and the mouse, were wondering how the crow caught the frog from the water. The poor frog was cursing the day when he first made friendship with this odd companion.
