✦ A story about Kindness

Mock not at Others' Follies Rather...

Alexander the great, the king of Macedon (336-323 BC) conquered Persia, Egypt, Syria, Mesopotamia, Bactria and in Egypt he also founded the city of Alexandria.

Later when he decided to move towards Punjab (India) to invade other kingdoms, to expand his empire, his beloved desired to accompany him in his victory march. Alexander knew that the war life of camps is not at all comfortable like the life of palaces. He did not agree to her. But she insisted and rather forced him to accept her demand. Finally Alexander said that he would consult his master and the mentor, the philosopher Aristotie and if he permitted then only he would take her along.

But when Alexander talked to Aristotie, he advised him that woman is a great weakness for man. You are going to conquer the world. She will be a hinderance in your mission. So you should not take her along.Rather you should try to keep yourself away from women. Alexander told his beloved that his master had forbidden him that he should not take her along. The lady did not like the idea and said that she herself would talk to the master. And prove that his views about women were wrong.

Women are well known for their coquettish nature. She approached the master. He was walking in a park. She remained with him and through her coquettish ways, impressed him so much so that they became childlike friends. She said that she likes horse-riding. She requested him to become horse for her. The old man took it a children’s game and bent on his knees, keeping his hands on the ground. She climbed on his back and asked him to move. She then clapped her hands expressing her joy. Alexander who was not far away, came to the park and seeing his master in such a condition, wondered and said, ‘Master, you forbade me and advised me to keep myself away from women. But you yourself are playing with her in this manner.

Aristotie got up. He looked at the lady and at Alexander and understood that how and why he has been befooled by the lady. He told Alexander, ‘My son, if she could fool such an old man like me, think! you are young and how easily you could be waylaid. I had not given the wrong advice to you.’ And he kept quiet.

So when we see our seniors becoming the victims of the passions, we should not mock at them, rather we should thank God that He has kept us saved from these passions which can overtake anyone and at anytime.
