✦ A story about Patience

The Rabbit and the Tortoise form a company

We know that once the tortoise had won a race just with his slow and steady approach. The Rabbit was defeated just because of his relentless and over confidence. He pondered over the problem and decided to overcome his shortcomings in future. He challenged the tortoise again for the race. And this time he ran relentlessly and reached the target point much before the tortoise.

The rabbit was happy and it was now the turn of tortoise to ponder over the causes of his defeat. He knew that he had certain inherent qualities which the rabbit didn’t have. He was also sure of his slow and steady moves. So he too challenged the rabbit for a new race. But this time he made a condition about the route of the race. He chose a difficult terrain for the race. The terrain involved a canal in between. The rabbit was able to move confidently over the plain terrain but when he reached the canal, he just scratched his head, because he could neither jump the width of the canal, nor could swim to cross it. He had to stop his race there. But when the tortoise reached the canal he at once jumped into the water and swam across the the canal and soon reached the destined point. He had won this time.

The rabbit had now understood that the tortoise was not only steady in his approach but could also swim to cross the watery terrains. Personally he could only move faster and jump a little. So he finally decided to join hands with the tortoise. He said brother, I can move faster but I can’t swim like you, so let us join hands together. You can take advantage of my speed. Whenever you have to move faster you can sit on my back and I will take you. But when there is a watery terrain, I will sit on your back and thus easily cross it. The tortoise too agreed and thus they formed a company.
