Betaal Pachisi - Story 4 - Whom should the girl marry?

Vikrama tries again to catch vetala. After several attempts he succeeds and starts taking him to the ascetic. Vetala starts narrating him a story so that they can easily complete the long journey once again but warns him not to speak anything else he will go back to his place again. He begins narrating story about the daughter of the loyal courtier of Ujjain’s kingdom Hari Swami, Somprabha. She was very beautiful. She was skilled in dancing, cooking and was very intelligent. She also had an admirer in the form a giant.

One day Hari and his family asked his beautiful daughter about her preference for marriage. What kind of person was she looking for. Girl replied that she wants someone who is brave, very good in arts and someone who is really skilled at doing different things. Family started searching for such a groom for her. Few days later, Hari went out for business and while he was returning he was attacked by the goons. He was screaming for help when one brave soldier, Vir came to help him. He rescued Hari from the goons. Hari was impressed by his bravery and offered to marry her daughter with him. Vir agreed for the same and the next holy date was decided as the wedding date. At the same time, a poet visited Hari’s home and asked Hari’s wife to call Somprabha as he has written a poem on her beauty. Mother is impressed by the artist and asks him to marry her daughter on the upcoming holy date. Poet agrees for the same. Around the same time brother of Somprabha goes to market and finds a scientist making a small plane to fly to different places. Scientist gives demo of his experiment to him. Brother gets impressed and he also asks him to marry his sister on the upcoming holy date. All of them reach home and discuss the matter. They are not able to reach any consensus and decide to leave it to Somprabha.

On the wedding day, all 3 arrive their to marry Somprabha. At the same time, a giant who also admired Somprabha kidnaps her. She screams for help. All three decide to rescue Somprabha as one has plane, poet has understanding of directions and Vir is brave. So, using plane of scientist and knowledge of artist they reach the place. Vir courageously fights with the giant and kills him. So, they rescue Somprabha and bring her back to wedding place. Somprabha is asked to chose her bride. She is confused.

At this point vetala stops ans asks Vikrama, who do you think she would have married. Vikrama at once replies that she must have married brave man as beauty can be appreciated by anyone. Even if extraordinary devices are not there he would have used his skill to reach the giant. So, she would have married Vir. Every partner expects security in a relationship. Vetala is happy with Vikrama’s answer but he again flies back to his abode telling that he could not keep quite. Vikrama runs behind him again to catch him.
