✦ A story about Kindness

How Auspicious is it to Meet a Saint?

Once Narad Muni asked Lord Vishnu, “How auspicious it to meet a Saint?” The Lord replied, Narad! if you want the answer of your question, then better go to that nearby pond. There is a worm. Ask him. Narad went to the pond and asked the worm the same question. The worm died. Narad was disappointed. He returned and told the Lord that the worm said nothing and died. The Lord said, alright come after four months. When four months passed, Narad came and repeated the same question. The Lord replied, “Near the very pond there is a tree. On that tree there is a bird sitting. Go and ask him the question”. Narad obeyed and went to place and seeing the bird there asked the same question. The bird also at-once died. Narad was disappointed again and returned to the Lord and narrated the incidence. The Lord asked him to come after ten months and ask the same question. As soon as the period of ten months passed, Narad again came to the Lord and repeated his question. The Lord replied, “In the nearb colony a child has born, go and ask him the question.” Narad went to the house of that child. People welcomed him and offered him seat respectfully. He told them that he has come to see the child, who has recently taken birth here. When the child was brought before him, Narad asked him the same question. The child said that I am the same worm. When I saw you for the first time, I got rid of the garb of worm and incarnated as a bird. When you again appeared before me, I again got rid of the garb of a bird, and got the birth as a human being. You have again kindly given me the opportunity of seeing you, now I am sure to go to heaven. Narad understood.
