Meera's Unique Devotion to the Lord
Right from her childhood, Meera considered Sri Krishna her all in all and was always engrossed in his devotion. Though she was married to the prince Bhojraj, the son of Maharana Sanga of Chittore, yet her love for Sri Krishna never diminished. Unfortunately after about ten years of her marriage, her husband died. But it did not affect Meera much. Rather her devotion to Lord Krishna increased all the more. She used to spend most of her time in devotion and service to the devotees of the Lord.
Her brother-in-law Rana Vikramjeet found her attitude against the decorum of the royal family and he tried to make her understand this in many ways. But when Meera did not change her attitude, he even tried to kill her by sending a cup of poision saying that it was the nector of the feet of Lord Krishna. Meera’s sister in law told her that it was poision meant to kill her. Since Meera did not refuse the nector sent in the name of the Lord and so she drank. But by the grace of the Lord, the poision did not affect her.
Once a fake Sadhu came to Meera and said that the Lord had directed him to sleep with Meera and to comfort her sexually. In reply Meera said that if this is the wish of the Lord, then she has no objection to it. But she advised him first to have some food, as she would require some time to set the bedding.
Meera spread a bed in the midst of the hall in which she was serving the devotees. Then she invited the fake Sadhu and told her that the bed is ready, come and do the will of the Lord. Have no fear or shyness, because we are only carrying out the command of our Lord and there is nothing wrong in it. Seeing so many people around and hearing the piercing words of Meera, the face of the Sadhu became pale. The ignorance in his heart vanished and he fell at the feet of Meera and asked for forgiveness.
