Love begets love
If we want that everybody should love us, then we should first learn to love all. Love begets love. What to talk of human beings, even when we love our pets, they respond the same way. And if we show hatred or any sort of ill will, we must be prepared to bear it on ourselves too. The story of an elephant and the tailor teaches us this very moral only.
An elephant and a tailor became friends per chance. The elephant would visit the tailor’s shop and lovingly pat the tailor with his trunk. The tailor would give him bananas or other things to eat. The elephant would lovingly salute the tailor and then go on his way. This sort of dealing between them continued for a long time.
One day when the elephant came, the tailor was not in his shop. His servant was doing the job of stitching buttons etc. The elephant as usual moved towards the shop expecting the same loving treatment. But the wicked servant did not like it. He had a needle in his hand. At-once he pricked the trunk of the elephant with his needle. The elephant was not prepared for this. Though his skin is quite thick, yet he felt the prick and was hurt. But he did not react immediately.
He left the place. Went to a pond nearby and filled his trunk with the muddy water and came back running to the tailors shop and sprinkled all the muddy water on the various clothes lying in the tailors shop. You can imagine the tailor’s loss. When the tailor came, the servant told him about everything. He patted the elephant, offered him bananas and was sorry for his servant’s behavior. The elephant also never wanted to harm his friend in any way. But they both were helpless now.
