Remarkable Obedience of Aiyaaz
Aiyaaz was a close and trustworthy friend of King Mehmood. Often he used to praise him before others. The ministers and others in the court of the king were jealous of Aiyaaz. The king also noticed it.
One day when the court was full of ministers, officials and other dignitaries, the king entered the court and after occupying his seat, he gave a large size diamond to his prime minister and asked: What will be the cost of this diamond? The prime minister replied, many bags full of gold. The king then ordered, alright break it. The prime minister apologized with folded hands, ‘I am your well wisher. How can I dare to break such a precious diamond! The king said, very well. He awarded him and took the diamond back.
Sometimes later, he gave the same diamond to the Reader in the court and asked him to guess its value. He too said that it was a very costly diamond. Then the king asked him to break it. The reader replied, see how bright it is? How can I dare to break such a diamond. The king said, very well. He awarded him too and took back the diamond.
Likewise the king showed the diamond to many and when he asked them to break it, no one did it. Everyone praised the diamond immensely but no one dared to break it.
In the end, the king called his trustworthy friend Aiyaaz and showed him the diamond and asked him to guess its value. He too said that its value was tremendous. The king then asked him to break it. Aiyaaz at-once obeyed and broke the diamond. Everyone was amazed in the court and was heard saying, see the fool has broken such a precious diamond. They scolded Aiyaaz openly.
Aiyaaz very politely but confidently replied: My frieds! You didn’t break the diamond but ignored the command of the king which in my views is more precious then this diamond. I value kings’ command more then the diamond or any other thing in the world. You only gazed at the diamond and did not obey the command of the king.
The king just glanced at all of them with a sweet meaningful smile.
