✦ A story about Kindness

King's new palace

King Vir Singh Baghela was the devoted disciple of Kabir. He had got constructed a new palace for himself. Elated with its beauty and grandeur, he invited all citizens to see it. Kabir who happened to be in the town was also urged to visit the palace. While he was coming out, Kabir met the king, who casually enquired, ‘How did you like my new palace?’

Kabir replied, ‘Yes, it’s good, but it has two blemishes.’ ‘What sort of blemishes?’, asked the king. Kabir replied, ‘The first is that this palace will crumble and fall; the second, the one who has got it built will have to leave it.’

The king was annoyed, but suppressing his anger, he said, ‘Why do you utter such words at such an auspicious hour, when I am shifting into my new palace?.’

Kabir replied: ‘O king, the law of this world is such that the sun that rises must set, the day that comes must go; whatever is created has to crumble, and who-ever is born has to die.’ Saying these words, Kabir walked away.
