As you sow, so shall you reap!
Once upon a time the King Bhoj, got curious to know about his previous births. He called his astrologers and asked them to figure out the all the good deeds he had done in the previous lives which made him deserving to become the King of the huge kingdom in the present birth.
Astrologers told him that he would have to ask this question to a poor lady living on the outskirts of the kingdom. So, the King reached out to the poor lady. She told him to check with a sage, who has been meditating on a nearby hill. So, the King went to the sage who obliged his request and took him inside via spiritual regions to the abode of Lord Vishnu also known as Baikunth. On reaching there they saw that a beautiful mansion was being built for the King. On asking the sage King found out that this was the fruit of his good deeds in the present life. Suddenly, they returned to the mortal world and the sage saw the king little perplexed. To help him get rid of his anxiety, he started revealing the secrets of his previous birth.
The sage told the King that in the previous birth they were brothers, the poor lady was his sister and the mentally unstable woman who wanders in the forest area, used be to their mother. One day the mother brought the flour from somewhere and cooked four chapattis and distributed each among themselves. Before they could start eating, a bhikshu came to the front door of their house and started asking for something to eat. To this, the mother got furious and told him that they are hungry and have nothing to share with him. When the bhikshu persisted, she fumed and stripped him naked. Bhikshu did not react at all. He endured the insult calmly. The sage, further added, that he also joined the mother’s anguish and threw a burning wooden piece from the gas fire towards the Sage. On the other hand, the King showed compassion towards the Sage and gave him half of his Chapatti.
The sage told the King that is why you have the Kingdom. He has to meditate in front of fire because he threw firewood at the Sage. Sister did not share the chapatti so she has to live in poverty. Lastly, the mother has to wander naked in the forests because she behaved badly with the Sage and stripped him naked.
