✦ A story about Kindness

Thirsty Crow & Compassion

Once upon a time, on a hot sunny day, a crow became very thirsty. It had been flying around for hours, searching for water, but there was not a single source to quench its thirst. Finally, feeling exhausted and almost giving up hope, the crow spotted a pitcher in the distance.

Eagerly, the crow flew down to investigate the pitcher. However, when it reached the pitcher, it realized that the water level inside was too low, and it couldn’t reach the water to drink. The crow was disappointed but didn’t want to give up just yet. It looked around and saw that there were several pebbles scattered nearby.

The clever crow had an idea. It picked up one pebble in its beak and dropped it into the pitcher. The pebble fell into the water, causing the water level to rise slightly. But it still wasn’t enough for the crow to drink.

The crow didn’t lose hope and continued its efforts. It picked up another pebble, dropped it into the pitcher, and again the water level rose. The crow repeated this process again and again, dropping pebble after pebble into the pitcher.

Gradually, as more and more pebbles were added, the water level started to rise significantly. Finally, after dropping many pebbles, the crow was delighted to see that the water level had risen enough for it to quench its thirst.

The clever crow drank the water to its heart’s content and felt revived. It was grateful for its wit and determination that had saved its life.

After quenching its thirst, the crow felt a deep sense of gratitude for the water that had saved its life. As it looked around, it noticed other birds in the vicinity struggling to find water just like it had been before. The crow felt empathy for its fellow birds and decided to do something to help them.

Remembering the pile of pebbles near the pitcher, the crow had an idea. It called out to the other birds nearby, inviting them to gather around. Curious, the birds flew over to see what the crow had to say.

“Dear friends,” the crow began, “I was once in the same situation as you, desperately searching for water. But with some clever thinking and determination, I managed to quench my thirst. Now, I want to help all of you find water easily, without having to struggle as I did.”

The other birds listened attentively as the crow explained its plan. The crow suggested that they all work together to fill the pitcher with more pebbles. With more pebbles, the water level would rise even higher, making it accessible to all the birds in need.

Eager to alleviate their thirst, the other birds agreed to the plan. They started gathering pebbles from the surrounding area and dropping them into the pitcher, just as the crow had done earlier. The crow encouraged them and showed them the best way to drop the pebbles to raise the water level efficiently.

Soon, a group effort was underway. Birds of different species worked side by side, collaborating and supporting one another. They all dropped pebble after pebble into the pitcher, raising the water level higher and higher.

With the combined efforts of all the birds, the water level in the pitcher reached an optimal level. Now, not only the crow but all the birds could easily drink from the pitcher without struggling.

The birds chirped with joy, grateful for the crow’s compassionate initiative. They expressed their gratitude to the crow, who humbly acknowledged that it was a team effort. The crow felt a sense of fulfillment, knowing that its actions had made a positive impact on the lives of its fellow birds.

From that day on, the birds continued to work together and maintain the water level in the pitcher. They took turns guarding it to ensure that everyone had a fair chance to drink. This act of unity and compassion created a strong bond among the birds, and they formed a community that looked out for one another.

The story of the compassionate crow and the birds spread far and wide, inspiring other creatures to help each other in times of need. The pitcher became a symbol of cooperation and kindness in the animal kingdom, reminding all creatures that lending a helping hand and showing empathy can make a significant difference in the lives of others.

And so, the crow’s act of compassion not only quenched the thirst of its fellow birds but also created a beautiful example of unity, cooperation, and care for one another in the vast world of nature.
